Board of Health appoints second burial agent, keeps scholarship at $1,000.
Board of Health · Meeting of January 28, 2026
MENDON — Board of Health appoints second burial agent, maintains $1,000 scholarship. Vice-Chairman Tom Fichtner presided as Chairman Alan Greenberg was absent, and members approved Rory Crisfield as the town's second Burial Agent on a 2–0 vote and voted 2–0 to keep the annual Board of Health scholarship at one $1,000 award rather than split it into two $500 awards. Trash contractor EL Harvey representative Mike Szczepan discussed industry headwinds including declining recycling commodity values and rising fuel and labor costs, though he noted the town benefits from favorable Wheelabrator disposal rates and EL Harvey's holding capacity, which eliminates costly driver wait times.
Health Agent Colleen Strapponi reported food permit renewals are current, ongoing residential inspections are underway, and COVID and influenza cases have stabilized.
