Capital Planning Adds $100,000 for Road Repairs
Capital Planning · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Mendon's Capital Planning Committee voted 5-0 to recommend a slate of projects, including a $35,000 salt brine applicator and $108,000 in senior center upgrades, for the fall Special Town Meeting warrant, and separately voted to set aside $100,000 in free cash for road repairs. Town Administrator Jeremy Stull said the town expects roughly $1.8 million in free cash, with $564,000 earmarked to repay stabilization funds used to balance the fiscal 2027 budget. Member Phil Cieply pushed back on a proposed $50,000 consultant study to consolidate fire, highway, senior center and library space, saying "I'm gun shy because we keep spending money on consultants." Member Jesse Curll, questioning the Mendon-Upton Regional School District's $9 million bond issuance, said "it seems odd that there was so much withdrawn that we're paying interest on" ahead of project spending.
Police Chief Dave Kersey and Highway Supervisor John Dudley also outlined a three-vehicle fleet reshuffle.
