MENDON — Conservation Commission issues cease-and-desist on commercial logging at Washington Street properties. Conservation Agent Isabella Genova discovered timber cutting in wetland areas without the required forest cutting plan; approximately fifty cords had already been removed by unlicensed harvesters David Cobb and Jim McCarthy. The Commission voted unanimously to issue an enforcement order halting work pending a site visit the following week.
The Commission also discussed a selective timber harvest proposal for the Town Forest, noting a management plan would be required before any cutting plan could proceed. A vote to express the Commission's intention to create a Conservation Area Land Planning Subcommittee passed 5 to 1, pending Select Board concurrence.
