Historic Commission addresses 11 Cape Road demolition without permits issued.

MENDON — The Historic Commission held a joint meeting with the Local Historic District Commission to address the unpermitted demolition of a 1½-story building at 11 Cape Road owned by Bethany Church. Chair Dan Byer explained the structure was subject to demolition review as a property aged 75 years or more, but no permits were issued. Church representative Cheri McCutchen stated the 2022 notification letter was not received because the property is rented to tenants, and a contractor hired through the property manager did not follow proper permitting procedures.
The Commission requested historical documentation and agreed to send the church the Historic District Design Guidelines and Demolition Delay Bylaw materials. The Commission is also seeking quotes for relocating the historic weights and measures cabinet and for exterior painting and foundation remediation of the Olney Cook Shop.
