Historic District Commission · Meeting of January 29, 2026

MENDON — Historic District Commission approves 2025 annual report, eyes permanent signage for district entrances. The January 29 meeting documented three hearings, three certificates, and thirteen permits reviewed without hearings in 2025, primarily for solar roofs and air conditioner heat pumps. Members approved a budget proposal of $10,000 to $15,000 for permanent wayfinding signs at Founders Park, North Avenue, Maple Street, the cemetery, and Washington Street, with cast aluminum or bronze materials under consideration.

The commission also approved seeking Community Preservation Act funding for an Ammidon Tavern National Register status application, discussed commemorative flags honoring Revolutionary War soldier homes at an estimated $25 per flag, and investigated an unauthorized demolition on Cape Road, which carries potential fines of $300 per day under local bylaw.
