Mendon Board Opens Warrant for Special Town Meeting
Select Board · Meeting of August 7, 2026
Mendon ADA study finds up to $3 million in accessibility repairs needed townwide. Vice Chair Alejna Brugos ran Wednesday's Select Board meeting in Chair Michael Merolli's absence as consultants Jim Mazick and Mike Kennedy walked the board through a 277-page draft ADA self-evaluation, finding noncompliant ramps, bathrooms and doorways at Town Hall, Clough Elementary, Miscoe Hill Middle School and downtown sidewalks. Brugos noted "51 percent of the plan is the senior center at Misco," with total costs running $2 million to $3 million excluding sidewalks.
Kennedy recommended the town establish its first Commission on Disability under state law. The board also reviewed a draft Responsible AI Use Policy from member Jason Kuter, who asked, "What is our reasoning for allowing AI into our, like, working systems?" and voted 4-0 to open the warrant for an October 27 special town meeting, closing October 1.
