MENDON — This week's column carries notices for two Mendon-resident obituaries, John David Wight and Philip A. LaBastie, drawn from Legacy.com, Echovita and Mendon Patch.

John David Wight, 79, formerly of Mendon, MA, and more recently of Mt. Dora, Florida, died on Sunday, August 30, 2026. He made his home in Mendon before moving to Florida in 1994. According to Mendon Patch, he was a longtime former Mendon resident and past president of the Mendon Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Linda. Services are not being held at this time. Philip A. LaBastie, 83, of Mendon, Massachusetts, died on Sunday, September 7, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Rita LaBastie, and is survived by his sons, Chad A. LaBastie and Philip A. LaBastie, Jr. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, September 15, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home in Milford, MA, followed by a service at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. that day at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton, MA. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute per the family's wishes.
