Committee punts camera bylaw, revives noise rule
The Mendon General By-Law Review Committee deferred a flock-camera surveillance bylaw to May and revived a stalled noise bylaw.
General By-Law Review Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
MENDON — The Mendon General By-Law Review Committee deferred a flock-camera surveillance bylaw to May and revived a stalled noise bylaw. Chair Tom Merrill, who also serves as the Select Board's liaison to the panel, said the Select Board plans to vote on a temporary flock-camera moratorium while the committee works toward a townwide bylaw vote at the May annual town meeting. The committee instead voted to push the noise bylaw toward the fall special town meeting, rescinding an earlier decision to shelve it, and scheduled an October 14 public hearing at Town Hall.
Merrill told members they needed public input on enforcement hours, use categories and whether decibel limits should be absolute or relative to ambient noise, saying "we might not have the language put us in the right pew, but at least we're in the right church." The committee also elected Merrill chair and Carl Hummel vice chair.
