Mendon Council on Aging Reelects Co-Chairs
Council on Aging · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Mendon Council on Aging reelects its co-chairs and moves to loosen food pantry rules. Members unanimously returned Earl Pearlman and Peg Nogueira as co-chairs and reaccepted Carol Kotros as treasurer, leaving the secretary's seat vacant until October. Treasurer's reports for June through August showed the food pantry account holding roughly $23,261 after a corrected balance error, with an August boost from a $624 donation via Dean Bank employees' "Casual for a Cause" program.
Outreach Coordinator Shelby Corbin confirmed Massachusetts requires no SNAP enrollment or income proof for pantry access, prompting staff to draft a less restrictive policy after one member argued "it's better to be in somebody's stomach than in our coffers." A revised transportation policy was tabled over vague language on covering medical devices, sent to town counsel for review. Town Administrator Jeremy told the board a stalled senior center parking lot project, paused over conflicts with a planned affordable-housing site, is now targeted for spring 2027, and more than 37 seniors have signed up for new AARP-grant-funded computer classes starting September 28.
