General By-Law Review Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Mendon's General By-Law Review Committee voted to endorse land use bylaw updates and kept drafting a noise ordinance. The committee voted 4-0 to back changes proposed by the Land Use Committee's Anne Mazar, who said the 1994 bylaw predated the Community Preservation Act and needed updating to reflect current land-purchase procedures. Most of the session covered a draft noise bylaw modeled on Falmouth, Hopkinton and Uxbridge rules, with graduated fines up to $300 and debate over decibel thresholds versus ambient-noise standards.
Members worried the law could be "used against our local businesses" like the Mendon Drive-In and a local winery, and confirmed town recreation lights run until 10 p.m. before setting any curfew. Select Board Liaison Jason Cooter also reported early talks on making the town clerk position appointed rather than elected, possibly for the 2027 Town Meeting.
