CPC plans warrant funding for Amidon Tavern
Mendon's Community Preservation Commission moved toward a warrant article funding Amidon Tavern preservation and paid coalition dues.
Community Preservation Commission · Meeting of September 1, 2026
Mendon's Community Preservation Commission moved toward a warrant article funding Amidon Tavern preservation and paid coalition dues. Historic Commission alternate Kathy Schofield said stabilizing the 1745 tavern could cost "upwards of about $800,000," while consultant Philip Warbass put full code compliance at up to $1.5 million. Town Planner Dylan Linton updated the board on affordable housing at 75 Providence Street, where the town awaits a survey quote to subdivide land for new homes, and on a Senior Center parking conflict at 52 Providence Street.
Members agreed to ask the town administrator for a placeholder article on the November special town meeting warrant to fund a National Register nomination for the tavern. The commission also voted 5-0 to pay $1,750 in annual Community Preservation Coalition dues. Historic Commission representative Dan Beyer noted a stalled developer commitment at the vacant Misco Springs building, where a promised $100,000 payment or building transfer "has just gone nowhere."
