CPC approves $8,000 for Pleasant Street title search

The Community Preservation Committee voted to spend up to $8,000 to clear title on a 10-acre Pleasant Street parcel. The unanimous vote lets the town pursue heirs who owe more than $150,000 in back taxes unpaid since 1980, or take the land through a tax-title process if no heirs respond.

Community Preservation Commission · Meeting of July 7, 2026

MENDON — The Community Preservation Committee voted to spend up to $8,000 to clear title on a 10-acre Pleasant Street parcel. The unanimous vote lets the town pursue heirs who owe more than $150,000 in back taxes unpaid since 1980, or take the land through a tax-title process if no heirs respond. Planning Board representative Barry Adarola said he was "just questioning the aspect of spending seventy-five hundred dollars, not the possibility of not getting anything out of it." Select Board representative Mike Morale said the board would likely fund the search another way if the committee declined, which members said pushed them to use Community Preservation Act money instead of the town's general fund.

The committee also returned roughly $14,000 in leftover Paddock property closing funds to the CPA general fund and approved its June minutes.
