Mendon Finance Committee Approves $57,000 in End-of-Year Transfers, Recommends New Member

Finance Committee · Meeting of June 25, 2026

Mendon Finance Committee clears $57,000 in end-of-year transfers and recommends new member to Select Board. Meeting on June 25, Finance Committee Chair Michael Krager led unanimous votes on two reserve-fund transfers, $15,000 for legal services and $30,000 for information technology, drawing the Finance Committee reserve down to a balance of $1,144.13. Town Administrator Jeremy said the IT line has been the hardest to control since he arrived, citing unbudgeted Fortinet firewall licensing, laptop replacements, and phone and internet plans; a newly signed three-year IT services contract locks vendor pricing through fiscal 2029.

Five additional line-item transfers included $17,655.15 from a Norfolk Agricultural School budget surplus to Police Equipment, covering a gap in a $150,000 Community Compact grant for a radio repeater site near Misco Hill that neither the administrator nor Police Chief Kersey had placed on either town meeting warrant. The committee also voted unanimously to recommend Mendon resident Tyler Abate, who runs an AI-focused intelligence team for a finance company, to the Select Board for appointment to the Finance Committee, a seat that had been posted vacant for approximately 50 weeks.
