The Mendon Local Historic District Commission approved a metal roof for a failing 1857 Washington Street home.
Historic District Commission · Meeting of August 3, 2026
MENDON — The Mendon Local Historic District Commission approved a metal roof for a failing 1857 Washington Street home. Commissioners voted unanimously on a certificate of appropriateness for a 24-gauge standing-seam metal roof after homeowner Lisa French's representative, Ariel, said the home's 1980s asphalt roof had deteriorated so badly no mortgage lender would finance the purchase. Member Karen Meade reported the weights-and-measures relocation project cost far under a previously budgeted $10,000.
Members floated a historic-signage proposal for up to four entrance markers costing an estimated $8,000 to $12,000 total, targeting a September 1 submission to the Select Board. Commissioners also learned a Providence Street barn was declared hazardous by the building commissioner and voted unanimously to appoint Dan Byer as the Historic Commission's representative to the Community Preservation Committee.
