Mendon Select Board approves three municipal hires, opts into state extended alcohol hours pilot. The board voted unanimously June 17 to appoint Trinity Hansen as police records clerk at $29 per hour — chosen from 107 applicants — and to appoint firefighter EMTs Brian Turcotte at $33.68 per hour and Greg Malden at $32.17 per hour, filling two positions authorized at Town Meeting. The board also approved a $39,595.15 package of year-end budget transfers, including a $17,655 match for a $150,000 community compact grant that funded a new radio repeater at Miscoe Middle-High School, where communications were previously described as "horrible." The board voted to opt into the state's temporary ABCC pilot program allowing licensed vendors to serve alcohol one additional hour — up to 3 a.m. — through July 31, and approved a fiscal year 2027 accounting services contract with town accountant Eric Kinsherff at $62,400 annually. The town did not receive a MassDOT bridge repair grant for the Providence Street culvert, with construction now targeting spring 2027.
