Town Meeting · Meeting of October 27, 2026
Mendon's special town meeting voted to move the town clerk position from elected to appointed, pending a spring ballot question. Town Clerk Ellen Agro made the case herself, saying the job has outgrown being seen as "a glorified secretary," while Select Board member Mike Morale and Board of Assessors member Kevin Rudden urged support, citing prior moves to appointed police chief, highway surveyor and treasurer-collector posts. Town Administrator Jeremy Stull reported $2,042,000 in certified free cash, of which the meeting appropriated roughly $1.2 million, including $582,202 into stabilization and $100,000 for roadway repairs.
Resident William Rousley of Miskell Road, after years of delayed pothole fixes, told the board, "if you don't pay me, I'm not paying my taxes anymore." Voters also funded a $50,000 feasibility study on reusing 8 Morrison Drive, the senior center and the Taft Public Library rectory, and authorized the Select Board to petition the Legislature to raise the capital expenditure fund cap from $100,000 to $250,000.
