Mendon Conservation Commission Declares Washington Street Wetland Plan Out of Compliance

Conservation · Meeting of June 25, 2026

Mendon Conservation Commission declares Washington Street wetland assessment out of compliance and issues enforcement action on a Butler Road development. The commission, whose members include Carl Humboldt, Leah Whiting, and Todd Sweet, had set June 25 as the final deadline for a wetland resource area impact plan at 51-53 Washington Street and 6 North Bridge Street, where unauthorized tree cutting had taken place near wetland areas; no plan was delivered. Consultant DeSheng said dense timber slash had prevented him from completing flagging or soil sampling, and he committed to a hand sketch by the following Monday and a full report before the next meeting.

"I do not want to extend — I think we should just leave it sit and then take further action, noting that they are out of compliance as of today," said Humboldt, who also expressed frustration that logs authorized for removal to restore wetland flow had not been fully cleared. The commission separately issued a unanimous enforcement order at a Butler Road shared-driveway development requiring approximately 1,600 square feet of outstanding wetland replication under an order of conditions dating to 2011, and ratified emergency certifications for a beaver dam removal at 69 Mowry Street and hazardous tree removal at 24 Austin Farm Drive.
