Mendon Fines Forestry Violator $25 a Day
Conservation · Meeting of August 14, 2026
Mendon Conservation Commission fines a Washington Street property owner $25 a day over unrepaired wetland logging damage. The board voted unanimously to impose the daily fine, retroactive to June 11, suspending it only if a forestry restoration plan arrives by the panel's August 27 meeting; any approved plan must be finished by October 10. Commissioner Carl Abel said the board had already extended deadlines three times: "I would propose that we issue fines until such time as we get a plan in front of us." Conservation Agent Isabella, after a site walk with the town's forester, recommended an excavator remove damaged material and reseed the site with a native wetland mix.
Separately, the board closed a public hearing and approved a septic, well and dock project at 76 Uxbridge Road, and approved a certificate of compliance for 31 Hartford Avenue West with one abstention. Chair Bob Sweet was reappointed during the board's annual reorganization.
